Walter C. Wingler

WHITETOP, Va.

Walter C. Wingler, age 86, passed away Monday, April 4, 2022 at his home in Whitetop, Va.

Walter was a hard worker who loved his family. He was a great dad and a loving papaw. He was married to the love of his life Shirley for 65 years. He and his family helped many a family enjoy Christmas with his Wingler's Tree Farm that he ran for over 40 years with his son David. When he wasn't tending to the trees, he loved to fish and hunt - just being outdoors was good enough. His kind and gentle way will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Effie Wingler; sisters, Mary Ann Kilby and Ruth Greer; brothers, John, Edsel, and Darrell Wingler; and an infant brother, Bronard Wingler.

Walter is survived by his wife Shirley Wingler of Whitetop, Va.; children, Louetta Miller of Independence, Va., Janetta Huffman and husband, Wayne of Whitetop, Va., Linda Wingler of Madison, Ala., Debra Grubb and husband, Lynn of Creston, N.C. and David Wingler and wife, Michelle of Whitetop, Va.; sisters, Eula Blevins and husband, Carroll of Abingdon, Va. and Stella Greer of Rugby, Va.; grandson, Jason Wingler and wife, Sherry of Oviedo, Fla.; grandchildren, Joshua Huffman, Waylon Porter, Jonathan Miller, Jared Miller, Victoria Adams, Brittany Mahaffey and Daniel Wingler; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, July 2, 2022 at 2 p.m. at Mount Rogers Fire Department, 51 Firehouse Road, Whitetop, VA 24292 with Pastor Brian Walls officiating.
