Virginia Hall McFarlane

d. December 29, 2017

MARION, Va.

Virginia Hall “Granny” McFarlane died Friday, December 29, 2017 at Francis Marion Manor, Marion, Va.

She was born April 28, 1928 in Crockett, Va. to the late John Roy and Minnie Lee Hall. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marion C. McFarlane; son-in-law, Richard Briscoe; sisters, Frances Harmon and Nancy Murphy; brother Herman “Buddy” Hall; and several beloved in-laws.

She was the last remaining charter member of the Atkins Baptist Church and her love for the Lord was evident in the way she lived her life. Virginia had a special reason for her smile and her joy, her great-grandson Aidan, who was her purpose in life. She was his caregiver until he started school, and he loved to climb up beside her and read to her. When she no longer recognized her beloved family, she still knew Aidan, and he still brought his books, which gave her that smile.  “Granny” will be missed by all who knew her.

Family left remaining to cherish her memory are her daughters, Patty Hayes and husband, Gerald of Marion, Va., and Maria Briscoe of Abingdon, Va.; the “apple of her eye”, granddaughter, Kelli Smith and husband, Tim of Bristol, Tenn.; great-grandson, Aidan Smith; sister, Opal Ratcliffe of Fort Gay, W.Va.; special family member, Timothy Cline; brothers-in-law, DeVere Harmon, and Gene McFarlane and wife, Lucy; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Eller, Nora McFarlane and Edna McFarlane; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Tommy and Joyce Cullop and Heather Staley.

Special thanks to the 2nd floor staff of Francis Marion Manor who loved and cared for “Granny” like she was their family.
