Vanessa “Nessy” Neal Tolbert age 69, passed away Sunday, October 19, 2025 at her home.

Vanessa was a joy to her family and friends. She was very giving and had such a big heart for people. It was easy to become friends with “Nessy” as her family and friends called her. Vanessa lucked up and married her best friend and they were husband and wife for 35 years. She wanted to help people and did for over 20 years as an LPN. Vanessa loved her Lord and worshipped Him at Abundant Life Christian Church when she was able. When she was slowing down physically, ALEXA became her close friend by reading books and turning out the lights. Vanessa left a big mark in this world and she will be missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Glenda and Philip “Tuck” Neal; and mother-in-law, Violet Tolbert.

Vanessa is survived by her husband of 35 years, Allen Tolbert; Bonus sons, David Allen Tolbert and wife Lisa, and James Aaron Tolbert and wife / daughter, Melinda, all of Marion, Va.; sisters, Philda “Winky” Holman of Marion, Va., Susie Hopkins and husband, Tommie of Saltville, Va., Angie Whitehead and husband, Scott of Saltville, Va.; brothers, Mike Neal and wife, Drema of Saltville, Va., Greg Neal and wife, Pauline of Saltville, Va., Shane Miller and wife, Pauline of Dandridge, Tenn.; sister-in-law, Tammy Morrison of Marion, Va.; “Nana’s” grandchildren, Logan and Brent Tolbert; several nieces and nephews and their families; special great-niece, Kasey Hayes and husband, Taylor; special great-great niece and nephews, her triplets - Aubree, Karter and Braxton Hayes; special friends, Theresa Tolbert and Lindsey and TC Dembowczyk.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, October 22, 2025 from 5 until 7 p.m. at Fraziers’ Seaver-Brown Chapel, 237 East Main Street, Marion Va. Funeral services will begin at 7 p.m. with Pastor Josh Pickett officiating. Graveside services will be held Thursday, October 23, 2025 at 11 a.m. in Anderson Cemetery #2, 868 Adwolfe Road, Marion Va. Family and friends are asked to meet at 10:15 a.m. at the Fraziers’ Seaver-Brown.
