Shanta Stinson

Abingdon, Virginia

Shanta “Shan” Stinson age 54, passed away unexpectedly, Saturday, December 13, 2025 at Holston Valley Medical Center, Kingsport, Tenn.

Shanta was born and raised in Russell County Virginia. She graduated from UVA at Wise, with a bachelor’s degree in social sciences. Being a social worker was her true calling. She had such a love for helping people, especially the elderly. Later in life, she decided she would rather help people in a more personal manner, and began caring for the elderly as a sitter. She always had such a way with people, and never met a stranger – Shan was instant friends with everyone she met. She loved her family, friends, and her precious furbabies. Shan was an animal lover in general who also loved Halloween, and the water; whether it be the lake, the beach or even just the pool. Shan lived her life to the fullest, and enjoyed each day as if it were her last.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Bryleigh Stinson; parents, Raymond and Mary Lou Stinson; brother, Ray Stinson, Jr.; maternal grandparents, Curt and Dorothy Childress; paternal grandparents, Walker and Mayme Stinson; furbabies, Maggie and Lily.

Shan is survived by her wife, Danielle Stinson; daughter, Ella Stinson; grandchildren, Milena Stinson, Kaysen Stinson and Charli Stinson; mother-in-law, Teresa Leonard; special friends, Kim Forest, Rebecca Kestner and Bridgett Goebel (Kayla), Todd and Andi McNelean, Chloe Stinson, Ralph Taylor, Jackie Whittaker, Les and Brenda Mulkey, and Carol Courtney; furbabies, Toby, Ruby, Coco and JoJo.

The family would like to thank everyone for the kindness and support at Shan’s time of need.

There will be no services at this time. Shan’s wife Danielle will be holding a Celebration of Life on Shan’s birthday (weather permitting). Please contact Danielle for information.
