Mother Ruby C. Cox, age 97, passed away September 02, 2022 at her home in Marion, Va.
Ruby was born in South Carolina and loved her Greenwood family. She graduated from Brewer High School and remained in South Carolina until she met her love of her life at the age of 25. She and Leonard moved to Arlington Virginia where she worked in Central Supply at Fairfax Hospital. In 1968, the family moved to Marion. While in Virginia, she and her husband started and pastored several churches. Ruby worked at Buster Brown until she retired, then she got bored and began working at the Main Street Gifts and Eatery. She was a mother to all, raising three children, three step-children, many foster children, grandchildren and a host of spiritual sons and daughters. Ruby was the co-founder and assistant pastor of Antioch Greater Love Ministries in Marion and the National Mother for the Greater Love Apostolic Assemblies Fellowship. Mother Ruby loved her Lord and her family and they loved her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Johnny and Liela Christopher; husband, Dr. Leonard R. Cox; brothers, Henry Christopher, Johnny Christopher, Irvin Christopher; sister, Maggie Branson, daughter, Esther Juan Chambers; grandson, Michael Eugene Chambers.
Ruby is survived by her daughters, Debra LaJean Cox Wolfe Velazquez, Marion, Va., Maria Robinette Cox Forbes and husband, Kevin, Rockville, Md.; sons, Leonard Christopher Cox, Marion, Va., Robert Floyd Cox and wife, Joanne, DeLand, Fla., Charles William Cox and wife, Linda “Tweet”, Ontario, Canada; sister, Thelma Pearl Kimble, Queens NY; 22 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends, Sunday September 11 at the Antioch Greater Love Church from 1 until 2 p.m. Funeral Service will begin at 2 p.m. with Bishop Nolan Wolfe officiating. Burial will be Monday, September 12, at 11 a.m. at Rose Lawn Cemetery in Marion.
