Roy Greer

d. March 4, 2026

MARION, Va.

Roy Lee Greer, age 67, of Marion, Virginia, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2026. Roy was loved by so many people throughout his life. He had a devoted fiancé and the proud father of three daughters who were his entire world. He was also blessed with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought him endless pride and joy. Roy shared a close bond with his brothers and their families, but he had an especially special connection with his brother Randall and his nephew Travis. The two shared Roy’s lifelong love of dirt track racing, a passion Roy proudly passed down. A hardworking man, Roy spent years working in a factory and also owned a garage where he worked as a mechanic. He loved building race cars from the ground up and had a deep appreciation for anything with an engine and speed. In many ways, Roy was a jack of all trades. Roy lived an adventurous and exciting life and was never one to shy away from a little trouble. He had a need for speed, loved a good adrenaline rush, and was known for his wild stories and unforgettable personality. Despite his rough edges, Roy had a heart of gold. He would give the shirt off his back to help a stranger in need. Those who knew Roy will remember him as kind, funny, headstrong, and set in his ways, yet simply lovable. He had a unique sense of humor and was perhaps the best practitioner of reverse psychology anyone had ever met. Roy loved his children more than anything in the world and would do whatever it took to protect them. Though he made mistakes along the way, he carried those lessons with him and lived with deep reflection and growth. In his later years, Roy found peace through his faith, accepting salvation and building a meaningful relationship with the Lord. He is preceded in death by his father, Elzie Blaine Greer and his sister, Bunny Hash.

Roy is survived by his fiancé, Sherry Renee Finley of Whitetop, Va; daughters, Kimberly Marie McFarlane of Chilhowie, Va., Amanda Greer Buchanan (Josh) of Rich Valley, Va., and Carrie Perry (Lacy) of Whitetop, Va.; mother, Anna Lou Greer of Whitetop, Va.; brothers, Randall Greer (Debbie) of Marion, Va., Ronnie Greer of Whitetop, Va.; grandchildren, Chealsea Perry, Ryan Perry, Brentley McFarlane, Carl McFarlane, Easton Buchanan, Luke Buchanan, Cole Buchanan, Nevaeh Finley, and Colton Finley; great grandchildren, Olivia King and Skylar King; nephews, Travis and Shane Greer, as well as many others; great nephew, Hudson Greer.

The family wishes to thank Shana Greer and Tammy Guinn for the special care they gave to Roy.

During Roy’s final days, the family received incredible care and compassion from the staff at the hospice house in Bristol. The facility and its staff were truly a blessing during such a difficult time. In lieu of flowers, anyone wishing to honor Roy’s memory may do so by showing kindness to families staying at the hospice house—such as providing meals, drinks, snacks, flowers, or donations for those going through similar times of loss.

Roy was very clear about his wishes and did not want any formal services or celebrations held in his honor. True to his nature, he never wanted to cause a fuss or bring worry or pain to those he loved. In keeping with his wishes, there will be no formal services held. However, the family welcomes friends and loved ones to gather in their own ways—sharing stories, memories, and laughter in remembrance of the man who left such a mark on so many lives. Roy was a hero to many and a man who experienced more life than most could ever imagine. He will be missed far more than words could ever express.
