Marion, Va.
Richard Duane Hayes, age 75, passed away peacefully at home Friday, March 15, 2024.
Born to Everette and Ethel Hayes on November 23, 1948, Duane was the youngest of five boys. He lived his life with a jovial spirit and permanent smile on his face. Anyone that knew Duane, knew him by that smile. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, Poppaw, brother and friend. He was a faithful Christian and loyal member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Marion, Va. Throughout his life, Duane worked for over 40 years in sales; 30 plus years at Royal Mouldings (formerly Marley Mouldings), and later continued his career, and retired, from Sunburst Shutters. Duane’s good humor and infectious spirit made an impact on everyone he met in work and in life. While Duane enjoyed his work, his life’s passion lived on “the green.” He was an avid golfer and any free time he had was dedicated to swinging his clubs.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents, Everette and Ethel (Pennington) Hayes; father-in-law, William “Bus” Worton; brother, Don Hayes and wife, Betty Jo Hayes.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sharon Hayes of Marion, Va.; sons, Joshua Hayes and wife, Carolina of Denver, Co. and Jacob Hayes and wife, Miranda of Bristol, Va.; mother-in-law, Vivian Worton of Marion, Va.; grandchildren, Sofia, Olivia, Fordham and Londyn; brothers, Doug Hayes of Emmett, Id., Gene Hayes and friend, Debbie Rice of Marion, Va., and Gerald Hayes and wife, Patty of Marion, Va.; several nieces and nephews; and a devoted furry friend, Tilly.
