Retha Lyvonne Wallen

December 22, 1946 — April 9, 2026

Oak Ridge

Marion, Va.

Retha Lyvonne (Page) Wallen left this earth on April 9, 2026. She is now rejoicing with our Lord Jesus Christ. Lyvonne was preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years, Gary Lee Wallen, and her parents, Thomas and Mildred Page of Nickelsville, Va. She is survived by her immediate family, which includes two daughters: Penny (Mike) Mitchell of Wytheville, VA, and Bevelene Wallen of Oak Ridge, TN. Additionally, she leaves behind a bonus daughter, Jeannie (Jim) Miller of Oak Ridge, TN. Her grandchildren are James and Thomas Mitchell of Wytheville, VA, and Opal Grace Wallen of Oak Ridge, TN, as well as two bonus grandchildren, Will Miller and Daisy Silva, both of Oak Ridge, TN. Lyvonne had four sisters—Sharon Meade of Nickelsville, Va; Robin (Mike) Bright of Bristol, Va; Donna (Greg) Whiten of Hiltons, Va; and a bonus sister, Michelle Jones of Gate City, Va—and one brother, Richard (Rita) Page of Hiltons, Va. Her extended family includes a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sandra (Jerry) Peters of Church Hill, TN, and Jeff (Kim) Wallen of Ohio. Lyvonne is also remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Lyvonne lived most of her 77 years in Gate City, Va, where she resided with her husband and raised their two daughters. Following her husband's passing, Lyvonne relocated to Oak Ridge, Tennessee. There, she lived with her daughter and granddaughter for five years. During her time in Oak Ridge, she became a member of Beech Park Baptist Church. Although her health prevented her from attending in-person church services during her last couple of years, she remained a faithful viewer of Sunday services. Lyvonne worked many jobs during her life. One of her favorite jobs in life was working at Burger King, where she worked with her sister, daughter, and nephew. Beyond her professional experiences, Lyvonne consistently made an impact by sharing the gospel in her daily interactions. One memorable occasion occurred while she was waiting for an appointment in a doctor’s office. As she often did, Lyvonne engaged another patient in conversation, gently asking if they were a Christian. When the individual replied that they were not, Lyvonne thoughtfully offered to share the gospel and explain the plan of salvation, leading to a meaningful and heartfelt exchange about faith. Her gentle approach was apparent in the kindness with which she listened and responded, never making others feel pressured but instead simply inviting them into dialogue. Moments like these were frequent throughout Lyvonne’s life; she would regularly begin conversations with strangers, listen to their stories, and offer encouragement rooted in her faith. Her willingness to engage others in such sincere dialogue was a hallmark of her character, and those who encountered her often remembered her kindness and courage in sharing her beliefs. Lyvonne was truly one of a kind, distinguished by her generosity, unwavering faith, and dedication to her family and community.

In memory of her remarkable life, her daughters will host a celebration of life at Gateway Baptist Church in Weber City, VA, on May 23rd at 3:00. This gathering will allow family, friends, and members of the community to honor Lyvonne’s legacy and share their memories of her enduring impact.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to UT Hospice for the care and devotion provided to Lyvonne. They are particularly appreciative of Nurse Courtney’s compassionate support for the entire family.
