Phillip Wayne Blevins, age 60, passed away Thursday, May 22, 2025 at Wythe County Community Hospital, Wytheville, VA.

Phillip was born November 15, 1964 in Marion. He attended John Tyler Community College in Chester, VA with plans to become a funeral director but decided otherwise after working at a funeral home in Petersburg, VA. He came back home to attend Wytheville Community College, while working for CATO. CATO then gave him a job based in Memphis and Phillip would travel through several states in the south as a Visual Designer for CATO. When that job ended, he worked for JC Penny in Richmond, VA. He loved his work and was quite good at it. Illness brought him home in 1998, where he took on his family’s yard to show his style and personality – many perennials, flower bushes, roses, birdbath, statues, coy fish pond, bulbs planted every fall, etc…His idea of a garden was sunflowers, zinnias, and gladiolas, which he would cut and bring into the home. Nature was so enjoyed and he spent much of his life outdoors.

Phillip loved to go to church, especially St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Saltville, VA. He became a member there, attended Abingdon and Marion also, attired in suit, shirt and beautiful bowtie. He loved music and took piano and organ lessons.

Phillip was a very independent person, and like the song, he did it his own way.

He was preceded in death by his father Joseph Phillip; brother, Mark, only 18 days earlier; grandparents, Blaine and Olivene Dancy and Mary Blevins (his Bubber); his cat Gizmo he brought home from Richmond.

Phillip is survived by his mother, Judy; brother, Darren and wife, Leah; several aunts, uncles and cousins; special cousin Debbie Reynolds, who was with him at the end.

Final services are private by wishes of his family and will be held at Laurel Spring Cemetery, 653 Laurel Springs Road, Marion VA with Blake Frazier officiating.
