Mattie Mae DeBord

Mattie Mae DeBord age 87, passed away Wednesday, August 20, 2025 at her home.

Mattie was born in Smyth County, attended Riverside School and was a graduate of the 1956 class at Chilhowie High School.

Mattie was preceded in death by her parents, Ben Harrison DeBord and Ettie Jane Dempsey DeBord; brothers, Earl, Walter, Jim and Kermit DeBord; sister, Margaret Maudeen DeBord Blevins; brother-in-law, Lloyd Jackson Blevins, Sr.; sister-in-law, Mary Mildred DeBord; paternal grandparents, Creed and Margaret Roop DeBord; maternal grandparents, Charlie and Mertie Suit Dempsey; and niece, Deborah Kay Blevins.

Mattie is survived by her brother, Gerald DeBord; sisters, Brenda and Glenda DeBord; sister-in-law, Julia DeBord Wilcox; several nephews and one niece; all the special friends and neighbors she knew during her lifetime; and her canine “buddies”, Grady, Willie and Flag.

The family would like to thank and express deep appreciation to all who supported Mattie and her family during her illness.

Honoring Mattie’s request, there will be no funeral service and interment will be private.
