Marion, Virginia
Mary Wilma Thomas age 82 passed away Monday, May 12, 2025 at her home.
In her husband’s words “You have been such a wonderful wife, friend, partner, mother, that I have often wondered what I ever did to deserve you. You have such marvelous qualities that define you as a person. You are honest, strong in your faith, loyal, friendly, kind, reliable, loving and I could go on. I found an orchid while looking for a rose. How truly lucky I’ve been.”
Wilma was a beloved wife, mother, daughter and daughter-in-law. She had unwavering faith in God and was a member of First United Methodist Church. Wilma was a natural caregiver, stepping in to take care of her father-in-law during illness and being a helping hand to her mother-in-law; all without complaints but with plenty of love. She made her house a welcoming home to family and friends, and a place of unconditional love and support for her husband and children. She enjoyed traveling with Gene and on a trip to Disney with the kids, she was the One Millionth visitor at the park. What a memory that day was! Wilma’s presence will be missed by so many people because she was the kind of woman who touched so many lives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbur and Gladys Moore; brother, James Moore; sister, Ruth Speck.
Wilma is survived by her loving husband, Gene Thomas; daughter, Valerie Thomas; son Brian Thomas (Victoria); and grandson, Dylan Thomas.
Special thank you to her caregivers Holly, Trish, Patty, Sue, Ann and Cora Lee, and to everyone at Hospice of Southwest Virginia.
The family will receive friends Friday, May 16, 2025 from 12 until 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 115 South Church Street, Marion VA.
