Margaret Ann Hughes Tilson age 94, passed Sunday, March 12, 2023 at Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon, Va.

Margaret Ann was a loving wife, mom, mamaw, sister, and friend. She worked hard keeping places all over the area spotless. Especially her church, Riverside Baptist, until she was 91. Margaret Ann loved her church and was faithful most of her life. She was famous for her butterscotch pies, but was too shy to brag. When not working, she loved working puzzles, watching Jeopardy, and talking on the phone – but not while Jeopardy was on! Margaret Ann will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David C. Tilson; parents, William and Margaret Hughes; special nephew she raised as a son, Roy Hughes; siblings, Isabelle Hockett, Nancy Jones, Libby Overbay, Billy Ed Hughes and Mary Perry.

Margaret Ann is survived by her daughter, Linda Foster; son, David Tilson and wife, Carlene, all of Abingdon, Va.; daughter-in-law, Karla Hughes of Marion, Va.; sisters, Carolyn Buchanan of Marion, Va., Pat McClure of Bristol, Va., Sue Byrd of Marion, Va.; brother, Jimmy Hughes of Chilhowie, Va.; sisters-in-law, Ruth Chambers of S.C., Lois Bewley of Athens, Texas, Tessie Hughes of Marion, Va.; four grandchildren, Randy Johnson and wife, Karen of Forest, Va., William Tilson and wife, Jessica of Chilhowie, Va., Justin Hughes and wife, Brittany, Josh Hughes and wife, Kelly, all of Marion, Va.; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 14, 2023 from 5 until 7 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel. Funeral services will begin at 7 p.m. with Pastor Ed Fisher and Pastor Billy Frazier officiating. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Riverside Cemetery, 231 Red Stone Road, Chilhowie, VA 24319.
