Marion, Va.
Lura “Mae” Powell age 74, passed away Thursday, March 16, 2023 at her home.
Mae was a loving wife, mom, and mamaw – especially if your name was Phillip. She absolutely adored her grandbabies. She was a caring lady who loved spending time talking to her friends on the phone – everyday – catching up or checking in if they weren’t feeling well. When she wasn’t on the phone or hugging a grandbaby, she loved going to yard sales. Mae will be missed by all her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joh and Lou Stump.
Mae is survived by her husband Don Powell of Marion, Va.; daughter, Opal Mae Carrico and husband, Richard; sister, Joann Severt, all of Independence, Va.; brother, Kenneth Stump of Roanoke, Va.; grandson, Phillip Carrico and wife, Mikayla of Independence, Va.; great-grandchildren, Addilyn and River; special phone friends, Carol Gross and Leon, Barbara Shelton, Pat Baldwin, Betty Story, Cathy Lowe and Barbara Harrington; several nieces and nephews.
In keeping with Mae’s wishes, all services will be private.
The family is so thankful for the loving care received from Amy Moser and the team at Hospice of Southwest Virginia.
