Lola Virginia Pennington

MARION, Va.

Lola Virginia Pennington, age 82, passed away Friday, August 10, 2018 at the Wellmont Hospice, Bristol, Tenn.

Lola was a loving wife, mother, grandmommy, nana, me-maw, and grandma. She loved her Lord, her family, friends and church brothers and sisters. She prayed daily for God to save her children, loved ones, and the lost everywhere. Mrs. Pennington was a true lady with a sweet spirit and smile you fell in love with the moment you met her. Her loving and gentle way will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jay C. Pennington; son, Layne Pennington; parents, John and Betty Cress; and siblings, John Robert Cress, Marie Cress Reedy, Fred Cress, Glenn Cress, Patsy Cress Bowman, Violet Cress and Roger Lee Cress.

Lola is survived by her daughter, Denise Harris of Boone, N.C.; sons, David Pennington and wife, Karen, and Wayne Pennington and wife, Linda, all of Marion, Va.; sisters, Ruth Yule of Falls Mills, Va. and Betty Mae Ward of Sevierville, Tenn.; brother, Douglas Cress of Chilhowie, Va.; daughter-in-law, Dianah Pennington of Marion, Va.; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and special friend Becky Freeman.

Special thanks to the staff and volunteers of the Wellmont Hospice House.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Cedar Bluff Baptist Church with Pastor Justin Hall officiating. Burial will follow in Troutdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 14, 2018 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
