SUGAR GROVE, Va.
Lewis Wade Horne, age 94, passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at Rural Retreat Care Center, Rural Retreat, Va.
Lewis was born in Sugar Grove, Va. to the late Robert and Annie Horne. He was a proud veteran serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps. Lewis was a hard working lifetime farmer and gardener. He was also a member of the Rye Valley Young Farmers, Odd Fellows Lodge and the Blue Springs United Methodist Church. Lewis had a twinkle in his eye, a sense of humor, and a quick smile – especially if he was telling you a story of his younger days. He will be missed.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Dorothy Goodman Horne.
Lewis is survived by his significant other, Lillian Edwards; two daughters, Joyce Hamby, and Susie Mitchell (Steve); four grandchildren, Jimmy Haulsey, Mike Hamby, David Haulsey all of Sugar Grove, Va. and Joey Hamby of Saltville, Va.; nine great-grandchildren, Josh Haulsey, Tyler Hamby, Kaitlin Call, Dustin Haulsey, Dustin Phillips, Millie Haulsey, Tanner Hamby, Garrett Hamby and Shaina Vaughn; seventeen great-great-grandchildren, Zach Kell, Zoey Kell, Lillie Kell, Kasen Haulsey, Colton Haulsey, Hailey Watson, Kinsley Haulsey, Maizie Haulsey, James Phillips, Colson Hamby, Ella Hamby, Grayson Hamby, Charlotte Vaughn, Delila Vaughn, Violet Vaughn, and Kinsley Hamby; several nieces and nephews; many friends.
The family will receive friends Saturday, December 31, 2022 from 5 until 7 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel. Funeral services will begin at 7 p.m. with Pastor Kenny Price officiating. Graveside services will be held Sunday, January 1, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Blue Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery, 168 Blue Springs Road, Sugar Grove, Va. 24375 with Military Rites conducted by Francis Marion VFW Post #4667 and the U.S. Army Funeral Honors Guard.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Blue Springs UMC Cemetery Fund, c/o Treasurer, 607 Camp Road, Sugar Grove, Va. 24375.
