KINSTON, NORTH CAROLINA: LERA BETH MENEFEE ROBINSON, age 88, formerly of Marion, Virginia died, Friday, August 20, 2004 in Lenoir Memorial Hospital, Kinston, North Carolina. Born on February 25, 1916 in Rocky Mount, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late William Crump and Lucy Rosser Menefee. She was a 1936 graduate of Emory and Henry College where she was a member of the Kappa Alpha Phi Sorority. On October 10, 1936, she married William Marcellus "Cel" Robinson and together they owned and operated Robinson's Sporting Goods on the corner of Broad and Main for over 20 years retiring in 1969. Lera Beth was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Marion having served as a Sunday School Teacher, Board Member, a member of United Methodist Women, represented her church on the Weekday Religious Education Committee and was a charter member of the Marion Chapter of the Church Women United. She was a lifetime member of the Smyth County Community Hospital Ladies Auxiliary with 25 years of service having served as Secretary, Treasurer, Vice-President and President, and was honored in the fall of 2003 for having 10, 000 hours of service. She was also a long time member of the Stitch and Snitch Sewing Group. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cel, in 1973. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Sidney Crump and Ann Newman Robinson of Kinston, North Carolina. Two granddaughters, Adrianne Marcella Robinson of Raleigh, North Carolina and Marissa Robinson Hall and husband, Chad of Greensboro, North Carolina. Two great-granddaughters, Addyson Hall and Sydney Hall. One sister, Mrs. Leslie (Nancy) Gibbs of Richmond, Virginia. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 23, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jeff Lambert and the Rev. Neville Mozingo officiating. Burial will follow in the Rose Lawn Cemetery in Marion. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the Parlor of the Church. The body will be taken to the church one hour before the service. In lieu of flowers those who wish may make memorials to the First United Methodist Church, 115 South Church Street, Marion, Virginia 24354 or to the Marion Life Saving Crew, P.O. Box 784, Marion, Virginia 24354.
