Lenora Aker Pennington

Marion, Va. 

Lenora Aker Pennington, age 104, the widow of Lillard Carl Pennington, passed away on Tuesday, July 05, 2022 at Valley Health Care Center, Chilhowie, Va.

Lenora was born on July 21, 1917 in Smyth County, Virginia to the late Bowen and Mattie Hester Aker. She was a member of the Marion Baptist Church since 1931 having served as a librarian, Sunday school teacher, and was active in WMU. Mrs. Pennington graduated from Marion Senior High School. From 1942-1983 she worked for the Marion National Bank which is now Wells Fargo. 

In addition to her parents, Lenora was preceded in death by her special nephew, John Joseph Ferguson.

Lenora is survived by one sister, Josephine Aker Ansell of Baltimore, Maryland; nieces, Audrey Pennington, Phyllis Bays, June Osborne, including one special nephew, Melvin Wayne Ansell and wife, Carol; other nephews, Lyle Pennington and wife, Marge, Sammy Joe Pennington; great- nephews, Johnny Ferguson and wife, Tracy, Arthur Ferguson and wife, Nannette and several other great nieces and nephews as well as several great-great nieces and nephews; great-great nephew, John Dalton Ferguson and wife, Shannon; special cousin, Marilyn Hester; special friends, Joyce Blevins, John and Betty Metheney, Merrill and Betty Reed, Chester and Beverly Cole and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Evans. 

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 10, 2022 at Marion Baptist Church. Funeral Services will begin at 7 p.m. with Dr. Charles Stewart officiating. Graveside services will be held Monday, July 11, 2022 at 11 a.m. at  Rose Lawn Cemetery.
