Kathryn Blevins Kelly Bowen

June 26, 1958 — August 19, 2022

MARION, Va.

Kathryn Blevins Kelly Bowen, age 64, passed away in the early morning of Friday, August 2022 at the Heather Knoll Nursing Home in Tallmadge, Ohio.

What can I say about our mother? She was born and raised in Smyth County, Va. Kathy was a God fearing and loving Christian who taught us right from wrong. She was retired from the Smyth County School System as attendance officer, ISS lady, working in the library, cooking in the cafeteria, and much more. Kathy was a wonderful cook and showed these skills to many as a cook at The Village Truck Stop and Ala Carte Café. She was a cheerleading coach who loved all “her girls” plus all the students – and she was loved by so many! Our mother was the best momma we could ask for, the greatest grannymom to her grandchildren, and the #1 sister to our “Sissy” (aka Sandy Powers). Kathy will always be missed dearly.

She was preceded in death by her father, LaVern Blevins; mother, Maxine Sexton Blevins; grandson, Jacob Scott Kelly.

Kathy is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Gwyn Meek and husband, Steven Roger Meek, Jr. of Marion, Va.; son, Chad Everett Kelly and wife, Heidi Davidson Kelly of Akron, Ohio; sister, Betty Jean “Sandy” Powers and husband, Roger Dale Powers of Chesapeake, Va.; six grandchildren, Morgan Kelly Creasy and husband, Ben Creasy, Meaghan Kelly Brooks and husband, Shane Brooks, Nathaniel Scott Kelly, Bryson Isaiah LaVern Kelly all of Chilhowie, Va., Madilyn Renae “Mattie” Kelly of Akron, Ohio, Savanna Shay Thomas of Marion, Va.; three step-grandchildren, Katie Meek Gross and husband, Sam Gross, Adreanna Nicole Meek, Eric Tyler Meek all of Marion, Va.; two step-great-grandchildren, Connor Alexander Gross, Hendrix Zayden Wayne Gross, both of Marion, Va.; nieces, LeAnne Powers Crews and husband, Jason Crews of Chesapeake, Va. and Amy Powers Boyes and husband, Scott Boyes of Saudi Arabia; great-niece, Alyssa Nicole Crews; great-nephew, Ethan Riley Crews, both of Chesapeake, Va.; and many friends.
