Judy Elizabeth "Goo" Hess

Judy Elizabeth “Goo” Hess age 64, passed away Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at her home, surrounded in love by her family & friends.

Judy came into this world with fire in her heart & fight in her soul. Judy fought for many things throughout her life but the toughest one of all was her fight for sobriety. She faced many obstacles throughout such as homelessness, where she found love at the Hadassah Home; the doubt of family members, with whom she worked tirelessly & mended relationships with; & Smyth County Recovery Court, where she completed all assignments in record time without any infractions. Judy loved to tell the story of her recovery to anyone who would listen, in hope of inspiring someone. She always said “if I can do it, you can do it too.” She truly was an inspiration to many. Judy’s passing leaves a void that simply cannot be filled.

She was preceded in death by her parents, David & Sarah Hess; nephew, Jason Tuggle; and best friend, Barbara Wyatt. 

Judy is survived by her daughter, Michelle Cress; son, Tony Blevins & wife, Kristal; grandchildren, Lakin Henderson & fiancé, Stacy Hess, Kaylee Cress, Shalee Blevins, Ethan Medley, Caleb Blevins, Damon Blevins & Elena Blevins; great-grandsons, Alex & Hudson Hess; brothers, Alden Hess & wife, Jenny, Steven Hess & wife, Barbie; sisters, Teresa Tuggle, Sandra Miller & Donna Hall; many nieces, nephews & their families; special great-nephew, Bodhi Tuggle.

Special heartfelt thank you to Paula DeBord, Devan Reynolds, Tammy Burnett, Kristy Waller & Evelyn Sheets with Wythe County Hospice, Smyth County Recovery Court & the Hadassah Home.  

Family will receive friends Saturday, March 2, 2024 from 4 until 6 p.m. at Fraziers’ Seaver-Brown Chapel 237 East Man Street, Marion VA 24354. Funeral services will begin at 6 p.m. with Pastor Stuart Orr officiating. Please wear purple in support and honor of Judy’s drug recovery & her battle with pancreatic cancer. Honorary pall bearers are Jon Burnett, Stephanie Reynolds, Davy Tuggle, Dennis Kell, Hunter Kell, Stacy Hess, Mike Brown & Jessie Buchanan.
