Joseph “Mike” Smith age 73 passed away in the comfort of his home Tuesday, January 21, 2025.

Mike had a long career at Marion Correctional Treatment Facility. He enjoyed many years playing softball, riding his Harley with his buddies, attending Daytona races, and visiting various other beaches. Mike was a talented football player for Marion Senior High School & was an avid Virginia Tech Hokies fan for many years. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar “Buck” & Virginia “Ginny” McGrady Smith. 

Mike is survived by his longtime companion & best friend, Darlene Dean of Marion, Va.; special cousins, April Mitchell & husband, Billy, & Joe Harper all of Troutdale, Va.; & his furry friend, Miss Kitty. 

The family will receive friends Sunday, January 26, 2025 from 2 until 3 p.m. at Fraziers’ Seaver-Brown Chapel, 237 East Main Street, Marion, Va. A Celebration of Life will begin at 3 p.m. with Pastor David Medley officiating. 

In lieu of flowers those who wish may perform a random act of kindness or make a donation in Mike’s memory to the charity of their choice.
