John Stacy Stamper

September 3, 1946 — May 26, 2025

Chilhowie, Virginia

John Stacy Stamper age 79 of Chilhowie, Va., passed away peacefully Monday, May 26, 2025.

Born September 3, 1946, to the late Robert Luther and Lydia Margaret (Parsons) Stamper, John was one of many siblings in a close-knit family that remained his anchor throughout his life. John was a devoted family man whose greatest joy came from the love and laughter shared with those closest to his heart. John proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, carrying the values of honor, duty, and service throughout his life. However, it was his unwavering dedication to family that truly define who he was. Nothing brought John more happiness than having his home filled with the voices of family and friends. His door was always open, his table always had room for one more, and his heart had space for everyone. John and his wife Connie, who was his faithful companion and love of his life, together built a loving life filled with cherished memories. John’s legacy lives on in the countless family gatherings he hosted, the stories shared around his table, and the deep bonds of love he fostered between generations. His greatest achievement was not any single accomplishment, but rather the family he loved so deeply and the example he set, of what it means to put family first. His generous spirit and open heart will be missed by those who knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert “Bob” Stamper, Jerry Stamper, Ray Stamper, Steve Stamper, Jeff Stamper and Billy Stamper; sister, Linda Mros; in-laws, Barbara Stamper, Gene Hayden, Lois, and Barbara Stamper.

John is survived by his loving wife, Connie Carol (Davis) Stamper; children and apples of his eye, John Wesley “Wes” Stamper and Christine Marie Stamper; brothers, Jack Stamper and wife, Mary Ann, Tim Stamper and wife, Lora, Jimmy Stamper and wife, Mary, and Charles “Buster” Stamper; sisters, Brenda Hayden and Judy C. Stamper; and Aunt Irene; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and their families; in-laws, Rhonda Stamper, Carolyn Stamper, Jim Mros, Cassie Stamper, Vickie and David Cooper, Kim Callahan; many extended family members and friends who became family.
