John was born on July 22, 1942, in Tazewell County, VA, the son of John Walker, Sr and Eunice Sublett Robinette. He married Margaret Louise “Susie” Davidson on April 8, 1960, the same year they both graduated from Tazewell High School. John held a Pepsi delivery route and worked for WTZE Radio in Tazewell County in the 1960s. He entered the auto business as a salesman in 1970 and continued in the auto business for over 50 years. John operated his own auto dealership, Robinette Chevrolet-Oldsmobile, from 1974 to 1989, in Marion, VA. After selling his business, John worked for several auto dealerships in Lewisburg, WV and Christiansburg, VA, until he and Susie relocated to NC in 2016 for retirement.

John was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Susie; two sons who died in infancy, James Walker and Edward Dean; brother and sister-in-law, Arlen Wade Robinette (Alice Juanita); and two first cousins who grew up with him as if they were brothers: Edward Laney and Eugene Laney.

John is survived by two sons: Jonathan Keith Robinette (Elizabeth) of Winston-Salem, NC, and Jeffrey Todd Robinette of Charleston, WV; grandson, Seth Robinette and his partner, Kyndall Siedlecki, of Clemmons, NC; two sisters: Wanda Yuvonne Poff of Roanoke, VA and Sharon Turner of Bristol, VA; a first cousin who grew up with him as if he was a brother, Bobby Laney (Naomi) of Cedar Bluff, VA; and many cherished cousins, nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters in law, and friends. John is also survived by his loving partner and friend, Marian Taylor, of Clemmons, NC.

John had an outgoing, friendly personality; he truly enjoyed meeting and talking with a variety of people. He enjoyed attending family gatherings, watching a variety of sports, and keeping in touch with friends and former co-workers from the various communities in which he had lived. He also dearly enjoyed taking leisurely drives on country roads. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten by those who knew him well.
