John Fitzgerald Combs age 59, passed away Thursday, January 4, 2024 at his home in Atkins, Va.

John was a good man – always smiling and ready to get in to something – usually going to Walmart with his sister, Roxann. He had a big heart and loved his family – John gave to many charities. He loved his lawn mowers, tinkering with small engines, trucks and cars, hunting, fishing, and maybe now and then having a cold beer with his best friend Mike Frye. John will be missed by all his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman Combs and Emma Mutter; brother, Graham Allen Combs.

John is survived by his girlfriend, Laura Ervin of Chilhowie, Va.; daughter, Nina Combs of N.C.; sons, David Combs and Kendell Bowman, both of Saltville, Va.; sisters, Betty Jennings, Roxanne Frye and husband, Jerry, all of Atkins, Va., Nancy Hutton and husband, Scott VanHoy of Marion, Va.; Linda Clevinger and husband, Douglas of Rural Retreat, Va., Kathy Elliott of Marion, Va.; brothers, Robert “Bob” Combs and wife, Shelia of Lynchburg, Va., Rick Combs and wife, Revonne of Galax, Va., Earl Combs and wife, Elizabeth of Marion, Va., Stacy Combs and wife, Robin of Atkins, Va., Bowen Mutter of Marion, Va.; several grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and their families; special nephew, Mike Frye of Atkins, Va.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, January 9, 2024 from 12 until 1 p.m. at Fraziers’ Seaver-Brown Chapel, 237 East Main Street, Marion Va. Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. with Pastor Chuck Stout officiating. Burial will follow in Wassum Cemetery 5549-5557 Lee Highway, Atkins, Va. 24311.
