Ceres, Virginia
Joel “Chig” Cregger age 76, passed away Saturday, October 18, 2025 at Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon, Va.
Joel was a man who wasn’t afraid to work. He spent many years at Virginia House, he worked in timber for years and then settled down working on his farm. Joel loved his time in the woods – especially with the ones who called him Papaw or Grandpaw. Chig loved his family and time he spent with them fishing, hunting, or riding his 4-wheeler. He loved riding and looking for deer. He was all about an honest day’s work, being with family and just being a friend. Chig will be missed.
He was preceded in death by his son, Joel Thomas “J.T.” Cregger; daughter, Susan Jo Cregger; great-grandson, Mayson Delp; parents, Edgar H. and Effie Cregger; siblings, Martha Edwards, Curtis Cregger, Alma Cregger, Herbert Laymond Cregger, Truman Duane Cregger, and Bill Cregger; sons-in-law, Tim Fisher and Daniel Delp.
Joel is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Cregger of Ceres, Va.; daughters, Rosetta Gross of Ceres, Va. and Lou Ann Delp of Stow, Ohio; sisters-in-law, Louise Apland (Duane) of Marion, Va. and Ruth Cregger of Groseclose, Va.; six grandchildren, Joel Cregger, Brittany Delp, Daniel Delp Jr., Randy Delp, Joel Gross and Austin Fisher; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and their families; very special niece, Kathy “Bunny” Church.
