JoAnn Dancy Branch

August 19, 1938 — November 2, 2025

Wytheville, Virginia

Wytheville, Virginia

JoAnn Dancy Branch age 87, passed away Sunday, November 2, 2025 at her home after a valiant battle with lung cancer.

JoAnn was a special lady. She always had a kind word for everyone, strangers and friends alike. She loved being able to turn someone’s bad day around with an encouraging word and kindness. JoAnn loved her church family and friends and was a member of Hopkins View Primitive Baptist Church in Marion, Va. Her high school class of 1956 was dear to her and she loved their monthly meetings. JoAnn also enjoyed coloring, crossword puzzles, diamond art and the beach. A member of Friends of the Wythe County Library, she encouraged others to support and use the library and its resources. But her favorite thing was to spend time with her family and the ones who called her “Nana Jo.” Her family meant the world to her, and they felt the same way about her. JoAnn’s presence will be missed.

She was preceded in death by her first husband and father of her children, Billie Ray Sturgill; second husband, Elder Willie Branch; parents, Raymond and Verna Farrington Dancy; brothers, Carl Dancy, Quentin Dancy and Blaine Dancy; sisters, Violet Blevins and June Evans.

JoAnn is survived by her daughters, Anita Sturgill Wagner (Mark) of Wytheville, Va. and Lisa Sturgill Dobrovolc (Kevin) of Bluff City, Tenn.; son Daniel Sturgill (Sabrina) of Rural Retreat, Va.; grandchildren, Chris Brooks, Hannah Cooper, Lauren Roark, Ben Sturgill, Michael Mills and Katie Macbeth; step-grandchildren, Marcus, Micah and Malachi Dobrovolc; great-grandchildren, Bryson, Eli, Joanna, James, Joanie and Collin; several nieces, nephews and their families; special nephew, Don Blevins (Pat); and the children and grandchildren of Elder Willie Branch.

The family will receive friends Thursday, November 6, 2025 from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. at Fraziers’ Seaver-Brown Chapel, 237 East Main Street, Marion Va. Funeral services will begin at 12 p.m. with Elder Larry Blevins and Elder Avery Branch officiating. Graveside services will follow at 3 p.m. in Little Vine Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, 1284 Zephyr Road, Dobson, N.C. with Elder Avery Branch officiating.
