Jay and Joyce had a good marriage that lasted 62 years. 

Jay was a wonderful husband and father, the best plumber in Southwest Virginia for many years, liked to grow vegetables, was kind and generous with his time and skills, was a fan of westerns and wrestling events. 

Joyce was a good wife and mother whose favorite activity was taking care of children. She loved to cook and feed her family. She liked to have her family close to her and always looked after other people whether they were strangers or relatives. 

They were preceded in death by their daughter, Virginia Marie Self Horn. 

Jay and Joyce are survived by their daughter, Ruby Scott and husband, Steven; sons, J.H. Self, Jr. and wife, Lea, William Anthony “Tony” Self; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

In keeping with their wishes, services will be private.
