Jerry Wayne Hammond, Jr., age 55, passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at Johnson City Medical Center, Johnson City, Tenn.
Jerry Wayne Hammond, Jr. was a 1984 graduate of R.B. Worthy High School in Saltville, Va. and a 1988 graduate of Emory & Henry College in Emory, Va. Jerry attained a RN degree from Virginia Highlands Community College in 2020 and served faithfully at the SWVMHI in Marion, Va. Jerry attended Highlands Fellowship in Abingdon, Va. and served on the security team for the church. Jerry loved his Lord and Savior, his faithful son, Lucas and daughter, Katie; special friends, God’s wonderful creation, his country, his Harley, and his favorite dogs Rocky, Riley, Diesel, and Maverick. Jerry loved to take the scenic route to Mount Rogers and Back of The Dragon on his Harley. Jerry had an infectious smile and a sense of humor that anyone would appreciate. Jerry will be deeply missed by his family and friends, but he will enjoy his ride in the sky. We love you.
Jerry is survived by his daughter, Katherine Elizabeth "Katie" Hammond of Marion, Va.; son, Lucas Nolan Hammond and special friend, Madison Medley of Saltville, Va.; parents, Jerry Wayne Hammond, Sr. and Elizabeth Anne Hammond of Marion, Va.; sister, Carie Hammond Campbell and husband, Jeff; nieces and nephews who were more like his children, Chelsea Campbell, Cassidy Campbell, Chloe Campbell and Jake Campbell; special friends, Jennifer and Trevor Poore.
The family will receive friends Sunday, June 12, 2022 from 1 until 3 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel. Funeral services will begin at 3 p.m. with Pastor Craig Barber officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Rose Cemetery, 10069 Crescent Road, Glade Spring, Va. 24340.
