James Lee "Jim" "Sonny" Thomas

James “Jim”, “Sonny” Lee Thomas age 77 passed away Sunday, August 24, 2025 at Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon, Va.

Jim was a hard worker & welded most all of his life. He spent more than 50 years between Industrial Welding & Longwall & Associates. Jim loved his family & spending time with them, If he wasn’t working, he enjoyed watching movies – most anything involving Charles Bronson or just being outside. Jim enjoyed life & living – he will be missed by all who knew & loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents James & Mary Lee Tomas; wife, Linda Thomas; brother, David Harold Thomas; sister, Shirley Jean Taylor.

Jim is survived by his daughters, Lorrie Stamper & husband, Bill of Marion, Va. and Jennifer Ketchum & husband, Keith of Abingdon, Va.; sister-in-law, Janet Thomas of Marion, Va.; two grandchildren, Austin Ketchum & wife, Grace, & Sydney Ketchum; nephew, Brian Thomas; niece, Nicki Thomas; best friend & furbaby, his dog Willow.
