James Howard Martin ,89, passed away Tuesday March 3, 2026 at Johnson City Medical Center.

He is preceded in death by his spouse, Sylvia Martin; his parents, Curtis and Hallie Martin; and his brother, Curtis Martin Jr.

Howard is survived by his sisters, Betty Akers and Donna Lester; brothers, William Roger Martin and Wesley Martin and wife, Ruth; Several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Maxine Crewey.

Howard was a great prankster with a wonderful sense of humor who loved to tell stories about his days in the Air Force, especially his deployments to Germany and France. Howard will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Graveside services will be held Friday March 6, 2026 at 2:00 P.M. at Grosses Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, 307 Grosses Creek Rd. Chilhowie, VA with Pastor George Jessie officiating. Military Rites conducted by U.S. Air Force Funeral Honors and Francis Marion VFW Post #4667. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery by 1:45 p.m.
