ATKINS, Va JAMES “LOUIE” LEWIS CRESS, age 79, died Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at Francis Marion Manor, Marion, Va. He was born October 21, 1937 in Smyth County to the late Charlie and Hallie Suthard Cress. Louie was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was stationed in Korea for 2 years. He retired from Virginia House Furniture after 40 years of employment and was a member of the Atkins Volunteer Fire Department. Louie enjoyed playing softball and loved watching baseball, especially the Washington Nationals and the Virginia Tech Hokies. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene Cress; sister, Mabry Norman; and brother, Charles Robert Cress. Louie is survived by one daughter, Melissa Davidson and husband, Eddie of Saltville, Va.; one son, Brian Cress of Atkins, Va.; one step-son, Robbie Steele of Atkins, Va.; two brothers, Roger Cress of Marion, Va. and Roy Cress of Charlottesville, Va.; two step-grandchildren, Hunter Steele and Cheyenne Steele. Graveside services will be held Saturday, October 29, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Wassum Cemetery with Dr. Timothy Graham officiating. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the family at www.seaverbrown.com.
