James Roger Coley age 76, passed away Wednesday, September 11, 2024 at his home.
Roger was a loving and an awesome husband, dad, papaw and friend. Family was always first – always. Someone said Roger was the toughest man they knew, but he would stop and talk to every kid he saw. Roger had it right, he loved God, family and country; he was a proud Vietnam Army Veteran and a purple heart recipient. They broke the mold with Roger Coley – he will be missed.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years Martha Sexton Coley; three granddaughters, Lindsay Coley, AnnaBella Coley and Avery Coley; parents, Thomas and Lula Coley; brother, Freddy Coley; and sister, Christine Kinder.
Roger is survived by four sons, Chris Coley and wife, Michele of Chilhowie, Va., Brian Coley of Marion, Va., Dwayne Coley and wife, Megan, Eric “ET” Coley and wife Becky, of Marion, Va.; seven grandchildren, Abby, Dylan, Noah, Bre, Chase, Collin and Myles; three great-grandchildren, Eliza, Kace and Brayden; several nieces, nephews and their families.
Special thanks to Dorothy Johnson, Melinda Willard, Brenda Blevins and the Staff of Providence – who all gave Roger such loving care and friendship.
The family will receive friends Saturday, September 14, 2024 from 11 am until 1 p.m. at Fraziers’ Seaver-Brown Chapel. Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. with Pastor Ryan Cox officiating and Military Rites conducted by the U.S. Army Funeral Honors Guard. Burial will be private in Rose Lawn Cemetery, Marion Va.
