Jake Scott

Jake Scott, age, 93, passed away Thursday, June 15, 2023, at Smyth County Community Hospital.

Jake was a wonderful husband, brother, and friend. He graduated from Marion Senior High School in 1947 and enlisted in the Air Force serving his country for four years. Jake worked the mill all of his life and loved its history. He worked for the Virginia State Employment Service for many years and retired in 1995. Jake made a difference, and he and Madeline cared for many people over the years; and he was the absolute best caretaker of Mount Carmel Cemetery. Jake was loved by many and will be missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, CW “Jake” and Caroline Scott; siblings, H. Andrew Scott, Sallie Scott Carnahan, John Caroll Scott, Nathan Kay Scott, and Benjamin Bruce Scott; brother-in-law, John Wesley Harris.

Jake is survived by his wife of 67 years, Madeline Harris Scott; brother, Charles Nye Scott and wife, Joyce of St. Augustine, Fla.; sisters-in-law, Ella Mae Harris of Saltville, Va., Betty Scott and Virginia Harris Slusher, both of Marion, Va.; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

The family will receive friends Sunday, June 18, 2023, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Fraziers’ Seaver Brown Chapel, 237 East Main Street, Marion, Va. Funeral services will be held Monday, June 19, 2023, at 3 p.m. at Mount Carmel United Methodist Church, 4335 Lee Highway, Marion Va. with Pastor Harry Howe officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Carmel United Methodist Church Cemetery.
