Herbert "Steve" Shepard

Herbert “Steve” Shepard age 71, passed away Sunday, January 25, 2026 at Valley Health Care Center, Chilhowie, Virginia.

Steve was an artist. He loved to draw for his family and would make handmade cards every holiday. He loved musicals and acted in some as a younger man. Early in his 20’s he was the “Cowardly Lion” at a theme park in Beech Mtn, NC. This was one of his favorite places to visit. He was very talented and could play the piano by ear. He was a wonderful brother, who would spend time teaching his little red-headed sister what kind of man she deserved and how she should be treated. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Brown and Isabell Eller Shepard.

Steve is survived by his sister, Pearl Dustene Orvik (Gregory); niece, Shelley Dustene Fariss; great-nieces and nephews, Jayden Brown Hess, Brianna Fariss, Jordan Gilleland, Wrigley Gilleland and Addison Gilleland; special friends, Shannon Harris and Dave and Norma Simms.
