Obituary

Chilhowie, Virginia

Helen Lee Baumgarner age 97 passed away Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at Ballad Hospice House, Bristol, Tenn., just one day shy of her 98th birthday.

Helen was a genuinely good person. She was thoughtful of others and enjoyed being active in her community and church. Helen was a people person, and rarely met a stranger. She was a member of Liberty Freewill Baptist Church and loved attending church and church related events. If she wasn’t out and about lending a helping hand, she liked to sew, read and sit on her porch. Her family & friends loved her cooking and according to her great-grandson Jonathan, she made the best macaroni & cheese. Helen loved her family – especially the children who called her Grandma; and if you were Helen’s friend, she loved you like you were her family.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Baumgarner; second husband, Harry Meek; sons, Michael Baumgarner & Greg Baumgarner; parents, Carl & Charmie Neitch; brothers, David Neitch & Jimmy Neitch; sister, Ann Baumgarner; niece, June Baumgarner.

Helen is survived by her daughter, Millie Blevins (David) of Chilhowie, Va.; daughter-in-law, Kathy Baumgarner of Marion, Va.; grandson, Alan Baumgarner (Holly) step-granddaughter, Jennifer Robinson (Roger); great-grandchildren, Jonathan Baumgarner & Charlee Baumgarner; several nieces, nephews, cousins & their families; special friend & neighbor, Millard Stamper; special cousin, Sabrina Petty; special friends, Wanda Poston & Nancy Wyatt; and a host of many other dear friends.

The family will receive friends Friday, July 11, 2025 from 11 a.m. until 12 noon at Fraziers’ Seaver-Brown Chapel, 237 East Main Street, Marion Va. Funeral services will begin at noon with Pastor Stuart Orr officiating. Burial will follow in South Fork Baptist Church Cemetery, 215 South Fork Road, Marion, Va.
