George Jefferson Gray

ATKINS, Va.

George J. Gray, age 79, passed away Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at Rural Retreat Care Center.

George was a loving husband, dad, and grandpa / pop-pop. He loved his family and his country. George served proudly in the United States Marine Corps and then worked for the Department of Defense retiring to his farm where he loved that laid back life. He loved talking to people and being a friend. Everyone will miss George.

He was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of over 50 years, Phyllis Wassum Gray; parents, Sydney and Creddie Gray; brothers, Daniel Gale Gray, Robert S. Gray; sisters, Sara E. Robinson and Peggy Stone.

George is survived by his sons, Jeffery William Gray and wife, Kelly of Stewartstown, Penn. And Keith Gray of Abingdon, MD.; six grandchildren, Lance, Austin, Amanda, Abby, Taylor and Tyler; one great-grandchild, Hazel; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Thursday, September 1, 2022 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 2, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Pastor Mike Sage officiating. Burial will follow in Wassum Cemetery, Atkins, Va. with Military Rites conducted by the U.S. Marine Corps Funeral Honors Guard and Francis Marion VFW Post #4667.
