Eva Louise Jarvis

May 1, 1945 — August 18, 2023

Alexandria, Virginia

Sugar Grove, Va.

Eva Louise “Lou” Jarvis Shearer age 78, passed away Friday, August 18, 2023 at Mount Vernon Health Care Center, Alexandria, Va.

She was born on May 1, 1945 in North Wilkesboro, N.C. and attended Sugar Grove High School where she excelled in basketball, home economics and even won an award in cooking class. Lou married young on July 20, 1966 and had three children. She felt one of her biggest accomplishments was raising her 3 precious children, Lisa, Pamela and DuWayne in Herndon, Va. Lou was a proud, involved member of the Washington Plaza Baptist Church in Reston, Va. with Pastor Glenn Ford. She enjoyed selling Tupperware and Cutco knives, cooking for her family, and cracking and eating blue crabs with her family. When her children entered school she worked as a secretary at Sperry Corp. in Reston, Va. She possessed the stubborn Jarvis streak that we all loved and had a large, compassionate heart; she also had a slight shopping habit. Lou loved red roses, music - specifically gospel music, oldies, Elvis Presley and taking trips to the beach and the pool with her family. She also belonged to a CB Radio club and enjoyed going to CB jamborees and communicating with the semi-truckers during the long road trips to and from Herndon and Sugar Grove. She would do anything for her family and enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren and spending as much time as she could with them. Lou accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at youth camp when she was a teenager (Acts 2:21), and her family is welcoming her home in Heaven.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Elmer Jarvis and Eva “Toots” Cox Jarvis; one sister, Margaret Jarvis Springer.

Lou is survived by two daughters, Pam Calkins and husband, Frank of Springfield, Va. and Lisa Chik of Littleton, Co.; son, DuWayne Shearer and wife, Christina of Aurora, Co.; three brothers, Danny Jarvis and wife, Rhonda of Bristol, Va., Tom C. Jarvis and wife, Linda of Madison, Ala., and Jeffrey Jarvis of Roanoke, Va.; seven grandchildren, Allison, Aaron and Jeremy Calkins, Brittany Chik-Sanders, Tanner Chik, Amber Shearer, Ashley Shearer-Gasca; nieces and nephews,  Kendall and Brennan Jarvis, Maggie, Adam and Will Jarvis; precious family members, David and Darlene Ernest.
