Eugene Brown, age 91, peacefully passed away at his home, Saturday, September 5, 2026, with his family by his side.

Eugene was born in Clementsville, Kentucky and in his youth, his family migrated from Kentucky to Virginia where they settled in Konnarock where he grew up. Sgt, Brown proudly served in the U.S. Army Airbourne Division, proudly serving in both the 82nd and 101st Airbourne groups. He served 1954 to 1957 and after his Army training deployed to Germany where he served most all of his career. After returning from service Eugene and Mary married and began their civilian life. He started working at Laurel Spring Dairy, in Adwolfe. He quickly became popular in the surrounding communities while delivering milk door-to-door for the dairy throughout Smyth and surrounding counties for several years. After the dairy, Eugene was employed by the Virginia state correctional facility in Goochland, Virginia. He served there for two years as a correctional facility guard; after which he returned his family to the Marion and Adwolfe communities. Once settling back in the area, Eugene was employed by H.S. Williams company where is quickly rose to a crew foreman. He remained employed at H.S. Williams for approximately 39 years and then worked for Berry's Home Builders and Utility Trailer for several years.  After semi-retiring, he continued serving his community driving for the meals-on-wheels program again delivering throughout Smyth and surrounding counties. He also stayed active with the local Francis Marion VFW Post 4667 of Marion, Virginia.

Eugene is preceded in death by his parents Sherman and Rosie Brown of Chilhowie along with several brothers. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mary Brown of Marion; one daughter Teresa Brown of Marion; four sons, Dale Brown and wife Mary from Topsham, Maine, Chuck Brown and Wife Han Ye from Kernersville, NC, Douglas Brown and Husband William Stewart from Roanoke, Virginia and Keith Brown and Wife Lisa of Abingdon, Virginia. Eugene is also survived by one brother, Buford Brown of Chilhowie, two sisters, Shirley Huffman of Konnarock, and Debbie Porter of Marietta, Georgia. Eugene had three grandchildren, Emily Horne of Knoxville, TN, Noah Brown of Abingdon, Alicia Brown Nason of Topsham, Maine; one great granddaughter, Mikayla Brown of Topsham, Maine.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 11, 2026, at 1:30p.m. with Reverend John Roe officiating. The family will receive friends from 12 Noon until the time of service. Burial will take place following the service at Laurel Valley Community Cemetery with military rites conducted by Francis Marion VFW Post #4667.

The family extends a heartfelt appreciation to: Wythe Hospice of Southwest Virginia for their caring professional service and support during our time of need; the Francis Marion VFW Post 4667 honor guard for their support in the funeral proceedings; Smyth County Family Physicians.
