Irene Medley, age 91, formerly of Sugar Grove, Va. passed away Friday, September 9, 2022 at her home in Aberdeen, Md.

Irene and Ed raised their children on Cedar Springs Road, Sugar Grove, Va. Irene was a member of Sugar Grove Baptist Church. She worked at Marshall’s Dress Shoppe, Adam & Eve Dress Shoppe, and was owner of MS Dress Shoppe. After retirement, she enjoyed quilting, embroidering pillow cases, growing beautiful flowers, and feeding the birds. Her fur baby Mitzi was her companion for many years. In 1994, Irene moved to Middle Avenue. She loved carport sitting and visiting with her neighbors and friends. Irene lived with her daughter Brenda Arrington in Winston-Salem, NC for several years, later moving to Maryland to be near her sisters.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Medley, Sr.; daughter, Brenda Tate Arrington; son, Billy Medley; parents, Garnett and Pearl Simons; brothers, Jim Testerman and Bill Testerman; sister, Mary Schnieder.

Irene is survived by her children, Sandra Tate, Bob Tate and wife, Lynn, Debbie Hash, Eddie Medley and wife, Sherian; sisters, Betty Bilka and husband, Steve, Patsy Bedwell and husband, Grady; ten grandchildren, Kimberly Whaley, Jennifer Corbin, Richard Arrington, Mandy Binsted, Aaron Tate, Katie Chilton, Brandon Hash, Justin Hash, Sarah Smith and Jill Wolfe; 16 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, September 13, 2022 from 11 a.m. until noon at Seaver-Brown Chapel. Funeral services will begin at noon with Pastor Kenny Price officiating. Burial will follow in Slemp Cemetery, 234 Horne Hollow Road, Sugar Grove, Va. 24375.
