MARION, VIRGINIA: ELEANOR WYGAL McDONALD, born March 16, 1916, to William G. and Sallie Schrader Wygal, died Wednesday, June 29, 2005, at the Francis Marion Manor where she had been a resident since 1994. Mrs. McDonald was a lifetime member of the Mount Carmel United Methodist Church where she served as pianist and organist for many years. Because of her leadership in the United Methodist Women, the Women's Division, Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church awarded her special mission recognition. She was an active member of the Pilot Club International as well as the Home Demonstration Club and was instrumental in founding the 4-H clubs in Smyth County. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred D. McDonald; infant son, Fred D. McDonald, Jr.; three brothers: Garland G. Wygal, Dublin, Virginia; Jackson E. Wygal, Suffolk, Virginia; and William J. Wygal, Marion, Virginia; and one sister, Thelma Wygal Eller, Marion, Virginia. Mrs. McDonald is survived by two daughters, Martha McDonald Copenhaver and her husband, Rev. W. Eugene Copenhaver, and Annette McDonald Scott and her husband, James D. Scott, all of Marion, Virginia, in addition to four grandchildren: Rebecca Lynn DeLegge of Charleston, South Carolina; Michael McDonald Copenhaver of North Haven, Connecticut; Meredeth Scott Perhne of Gate City, Virginia; and, Preston Dickinson Scott of Greensboro, North Carolina. Nine great-grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Nora Mae Wygal of Roanoke, Virginia, and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, July 2, 2005, at the Mount Carmel United Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Donna Hester, Rev. Neville Mozingo, and Rev. Frank Bauman officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Carmel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Marion, Virginia. The family will receive friends Friday, July 1, 2005, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Seaver-Brown Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made sent to the McDonald Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o The Mount Carmel United Methodist Church, 4317 Lee Highway, Marion, Virginia, 24354.
