Obituary

Sugar Grove, Camp Community, Virginia

Doris Marie Brown Brewer, age 81, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on October 18, 2025.

Doris retired from Sugar Grove School where she helped many of the children and remained a favorite of everyone as the “ice cream lady”. She and her late husband, Richard, owned and operate Brewer’s Store for many years. Doris was a woman of deep faith in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and well known for her gentle spirit, kind heart, and unwavering love for others. Doris had a smile that could brighten any room and a word of encouragement for everyone she met. Her life reflected God’s grace and was filled with compassion, service, and unconditional love. Doris found immense joy in her family, her friends, her Church, and the simple blessings of each day. Whether she was sharing a home-cooked meal or a potluck at her gatherings under the tree at her home in Camp or praying for someone in need, Doris embodied the love of Christ in everything she did.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, J. Richard Brewer; parents Howard and Helen Hutton Brown; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ted and Emma Brewer.

Doris is survived by several special cousins, including family of the heart, Gary and Bonita Jones, Sylvia Pickett, and Godchildren Bear and Ella Jones. Special cousins include Deborah Thompson, Lora Testerman, Sammy Parsons, and Larry Hutton, and other numerous other cousins and friends and her Carmi Baptist Church family.

The family will receive friends Friday, October 24, 2025 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Fraziers’ Seaver-Brown Chapel, 237 East Main Street, Marion, VA. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Greg Altizer officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Springs Cemetery, 168 Blue Springs Road, Sugar Grove, VA.

Though our hearts ache with her absence, we find peace knowing she is resting in the arms of Jesus. “Well done, good and faithful servant.....enter into the joy of your Lord.” — Matthew 25:23
