David Lewis Woodrum, Sr., age 77, passed away Saturday May 30, 2026 at Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion, Virginia.
David grew up roaming the mountains of Poplar Creek, a section of Buchanan County, with his good buddies, Harold and Gary. He was known for his wonderful sense of humor. He was also known for his love of anything with a motor, especially classic cars including a 1957 Chevy and also Harley Davidson motorcycles. David was a proud member of Grace United Methodist Church. He was a Past Master of Rich Valley Lodge 172, Past Worthy Patron of Abingdon, Chapter 182 Order of the Eastern Star, and past President of Columbus McKinnon Union. He was an active member of the Brunswick Union. David will be greatly missed by his friends and family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Billy and Nell Woodrum; grandparents, John B. and Bessie M. Duty; Mother-in-Law, Jettie C. Duty.
David is survived by his wife, Carol Cook Woodrum of Chatham Hill, VA; Son, Davy Woodrum and wife Cathy of Marion, VA; sisters, Margaret Ratliff and husband Tom of St. Louis, MO, Lora Woodrum Daniels and husband Mike of Grundy, VA; grandchildren, Elizabeth Sturgill and husband Brandon Lewis, Danielle Sturgill and husband Michael Via; great-grandchildren, Harper Lewis and Nola Via; several nieces and nephews; and his caregiver David Teaters.
Graveside services will be held Thursday June 4, 2026 at 1 p.m. at Ridgedale Cemetery with Barbara Doyle, Emmit Wilson, and Mark Totten officiating. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery at 12:45 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Grace United Methodist Church and St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
