CHILHOWIE, VIRGINIA: CLIFFORD H. STAMPER, SR., age 86, died Saturday, January 31, 2015 at his home in Chilhowie, Virginia. Mr. Stamper was born October 20, 1928 in Smyth County, Virginia to the late Hobert and Bertie Combs Stamper. He worked at Brunswick for 20 years and also for the U.S. Forestry Service for 20 years. He enjoyed his time outdoors and with his fellow law enforcement officers. Fishing, hunting, gardening, outdoors and family were the loves of his life. Mr. Stamper was a simple man and he will be missed. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Leonard and Bobby Stamper; sisters, Bethany Stamper, Louise Hawkins, Gladys Duncan, Magdalene Cline and Ann Cullop. Mr. Stamper is survived by his wife Thelma Blevins Stamper; daughter, Sharon Armstrong and husband, Michael all of Chilhowie, Virginia; sons, Clifford H. Stamper Jr. and wife, Marcia of Adwolfe, Virginia and David L. Stamper and wife, Deborah of Carthage, Tennessee; sister, Lakie King of Illinois; brothers, Archie Stamper and Hobert "Junie-Boy" Stamper, Jr. both of North Carolina and Mack Stamper of Chilhowie, Virginia; grandchildren, Angela Stamper McGhee and Douglas "Doodle" Armstrong and wife, Tonya Renee; great-grandchildren, Victoria McGhee, Matthew McGhee and Tyler Shortt; best friend, James "Jim" Fielder; special niece, Judy "Judy Bug" Stamper; special neighbor and friend, Bobby Jo Blevins; special friend Debby Michaels; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside Services will be held Sunday, February 1, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend Joe Powers officiating. There will be no public visitation. The family would like to extend a very heart felt special thank you to the following facilities and staff for the excellent care and service provided; Hospice of Southwest Virginia, Kevin and Diane; Dr. Paul Brown; Chilhowie Home Nursing Company, Dawn and Mary Beth; and Richardsons Ambulance.
