Cleta Sue Pennington (Mamaw) age 70, went to her Heavenly home, Saturday, January 17, 2026.
Cleta was a caring and gracious woman who would do anything for anyone. She was strong in her faith as a Christian. Cleta was a firm believer that you should always remember to keep God in your heart and His word in your mind; and as long as you take God on your journey your life would be richly blessed. Our family was very blessed to have the love, knowledge, and care Cleta provided all of us. Cleta loved nothing better than her grandchildren and they will cherish her forever.
She was preceded in death by her father, James “Buddy” Hurt; and mother, Ethel Parks Hurt.
Cleta is survived by her amazing husband of 26 years, Marvin G. Pennington of Marion, Va.; daughters, Diana King DeBord and husband, Robbie and Kristy King Malchano and husband, Brent all of Rural Retreat, Va.; bonus son Wayne Pennington and wife, Jennifer of Buffalo Junction, Va.; grandchildren, Emily Grace DeBord and Jacob Wayne DeBord of Rural Retreat, Va. and Kelsey Elizabeth Pennington of Buffalo Junction, Va.; sisters, Janie Blankenship, Nada Pickle and Venita Jo “Shorty” Hurt; many cousins, nieces and nephews and their families; several exceptional friends including, Starr Call, Cindy Combs, Harold Crook, Terri Groseclose, Sally Lefler, Robin Meadows and Sue Price.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, January 22, 2026 at 12 p.m. at Rose Lawn Cemetery Mausoleum, 4410 Lee Highway, Marion Va. with Pastor Don Turnmire officiating. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery.
