FORT CHISWELL, Va.
Clarence Odell Whisman, age 77, passed away Monday, March 29, 2021 at his home in Fort Chiswell, Va.
Odell was born in Smyth County to the late Clarence and Ruth Whisman. He was a graduate of Sugar Grove High School and attended Milligan College. Odell was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, and retired from the Virginia Department of Game & Inland Fisheries in 2012 after 46 years of dedicated service.
In addition to his parents, Odell was preceded in death by a sister, Janet Shupe; and niece, Monique Shupe.
Odell is survived by his wife of 55 years, Darlene Whisman of Fort Chiswell, Va.; daughters, Stephanie Whisman of Roanoke, Va. and Cindy Grubb of Fort Chiswell, Va.; granddaughter, Addyson Simmons of Roanoke, Va.; brother, Doug Whisman of Vinton, Va.; sister-in-law, Linda McBride of Marion, Va.; brothers-in-law, John Shupe of Marion, Va., Carroll Robbins and wife, Ann of Sugar Grove, Va., and Richard Robbins and wife, Shirley of Rural Retreat, Va.; several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, May 1, 2021 at 3 p.m. at Grahams Forge United Methodist Church, 738 Major Grahams Road, Max Meadows, Va. with Pastor Ray Bolen officiating. Family and friends are asked to follow the COVID-19 Safety & Social Distancing Guidelines.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask for memorial donations to be made to the National Kidney Foundation of the Virginias, 1742 East Parham Drive, Richmond, VA 23228 or the American Kidney Fund, 6110 Executive Blvd., Suite 1010, Rockville, MD 20852-9813.
