Charlie Edward
Whitaker
Oct 8, 1945 — Jul 14, 2026
Marion, Virginia
Charlie Edward Whitaker, age 80, passed away at his home Tuesday morning, July 14, 2026. Charlie was born on October 8, 1945 in Marion, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his wife, Effie Irene Whitaker; parents, George Whitaker and Bertha Mae Doyle Whitaker; his son, Floyd Clayborne Whitaker; step-son, Michael Stanley Dolph; his hunting buddy of 45 years, Alan Polly; special friend, Shelby Hendrickson.
Charlie was a faithful member of the Seven Mile Ford Methodist Church. These last few years have been difficult ones for Charlie as he saw his health decline and his ability to attend church diminish. He spent most of his working years in the lumber yard and furniture factory work. He was employed with Walker Sawmill, Musser Lumber, Virginia House, Visador (from start to finish) and American Furniture. He was definitely an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a firearm history enthusiast. He knew his guns and he was a meticulous reloader. His knowledge of guns and ammunition was absolutely unbelievable. He enjoyed playing the guitar and especially enjoyed bluegrass music from the mid 80’s.
Charlie is survived by his sister, Gladys Owens and her husband Dayton; “Unckie Charlie’s” niece, Cheryl Owens Buchanan (Bryan); great nephew, Garrison Owen Buchanan; daughter-in-law, Lea Haynes Whitaker.
Charlie is survived by his step-daughters, Denise Hudson, Jayne Barker and Cynthia Curran; grandchildren, Nikki Walker, Bryan Barker, Brandon Barker, Danielle Barker and Mandy Hash; great-grandchildren, Cheyenne Harris, Katlinn Walker, Aubrey Theodore, Michael Mattingly, Blake Hash and Derek Hash; great-great grandchildren, Luna Harris, Dexter Walker and Finnegan Walker.
Memorial Service will be held Friday, July 17, 2026 @ 1 p.m. at Rose Lawn Cemetery Mausoleum, 4410 Lee Hwy, Marion, Virginia 24354.
