Cecil Tyrone “Pete” Sawyers, 83, of Marion, Virginia departed his earthly existence from Bristol, Tennessee on Friday, September 5, 2025 after a brief illness.

Cecil was known to all by his nickname Pete, and Pete was loved and will be missed by the family and friends. He was a hero to his family. He was always there for them. The family appreciated him and was very proud of his achievements. Pete served his country in the military. He was in the US Army in Germany during the Cold War. Pete worked many long, hard hours in construction, building many big, tall buildings in several states.

Pete practiced many hours at the sport he loved, becoming a world class pool player in the process. Pete will live on forever in the hearts of those he loved, and those who continue to love him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas J. and Sarah Sawyers; brothers, Randolph and Ron; sister-in -law, Patty; former wife, Becky; former son-in-law, Ron Thomas; and beloved son, Tony Sawyers.

Pete is survived by his brother, Robert and wife, Juliette; sister, Loretta Blevins and husband, Cecil; brother, Greg and wife, Stacy; son, Mike Sawyers; daughter, Missy Thomas; granddaughter, Rowan Hollyfield and husband, Thomas. Additional survivors include his former wife, Jean; nieces, Debbie, Lynn, Olivia and Elise; nephews, Bobby, Steve, Adam, John and Jason; as well as many great-nieces and great-nephews; several cousins; and caregiver, Sandy Dennison.

Special thanks to the staff of Ballad Hospice House.

In accordance with Pete’s wishes, the family will have a private visitation with interment following in Rose Lawn Cemetery, 4410 Lee Highway, Marion VA and Military Rites conducted by the U.S. Army Funeral Honors Guard and Francis Marion V.F.W. Post #4667.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Pete’s memory can be made to Ballad Hospice House, 280 Steels Road, Bristol, TN 37662; or to a charity of your choice.
