Carter Wade Shipley, infant son of Haley Bender and Paul Shipley of Rural Retreat, Va., gained his angel wings on February 28, 2026 at his home.

Carter was a perfect, beautiful little boy who brought so much light to his family. He came into this world and left this world just wrapped in love.

He is preceded in death by great-great-great grandmother Lucille Aistrop,; great-great grandmother, Jean Thomas; great grandmother, Paige Jennings; great grandfather, Michael Clark; great grandfather, Gene Snead; great aunt, Joyce Brewster.

In addition to his parents, Carter is survived by his grandparents, April Keesling (Dickie) of Marion, Va. and Amanda Bordwine of Saltville, Va., Steve Shipley (Yvonne) of Wytheville, Va.; great grandparents, Amy Snead of Saltville, Va., Dana Clark of Marion, Va., Stevie Kestner of Saltville, Va., Ty Jennings of Wytheville, Va.; aunts, Addy and Hannah Warner of Wytheville, Va., Angel Maxwell (Terry); uncle, Steven Shipley of Wytheville, Va.; his four legged siblings, Zoe and Zayne. Honorary Pallbearers, Shane Snead, Steven Shipley and Possum Wymer.

Family will receive friends Monday, March 2, 2026 from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Fraziers’ Seaver-Brown Chapel, 237 East Main St., Marion, Va. Funeral services will begin at 7 p.m. with Reverend Kevin Richardson officiating. A graveside service will be held, Tuesday, March 3, 2026 at 11 a.m. at Rose Lawn Cemetery. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. for procession to cemetery.
