Mrs. Brenda Ruth Jackson

December 25, 1960 — March 19, 2026

Born on December 25, 1960, in Summit, New Jersey, Brenda Ruth Jackson entered the world as a gift—one whose presence would bring warmth, strength, and lasting impact to all who knew her. She was the beloved daughter of Shirley Temple Lee and Leon Milton Boyd, and the eldest of five daughters, carrying both grace and responsibility from an early age.

On May 23, 1980, Brenda united in holy matrimony with the love of her heart, Michael Edward Jackson. For 46 beautiful years, their marriage stood as a testimony of devotion, endurance, and deep love. From this union came six children; yet Brenda’s motherhood extended far beyond biology. With open arms and an ever-welcoming spirit, she became a mother to many—creating a home not only within her house, but within her heart. If you needed love, guidance, or a place at the table… Brenda made room.

Brenda was a woman of sweetness and strength, one who added flavor to the lives of all she encountered. Her life was poured out in service—as a believer, an educator, and an entrepreneur.

In the early 1980s, Brenda became a lifelong member of Mt. Zion Temple Church, where she served faithfully and wholeheartedly. If you were part of her “family,” you served alongside her. Her hands and heart touched many areas of ministry: she was a Christian educator, President and leader of the Women’s Ministry, Usher Board President, choir director, and a faithful member of the Praise Power, Soul Stirrers, and Mass Choir. As a soprano, her voice lifted worship with clarity and conviction. She was also a gifted writer and visionary—authoring books, directing Judgment Houses, and bringing Scripture to life through illustrated sermons. Though not a member of the men’s ministry, she faithfully supported her husband and sons in their service.

Brenda’s love for children and learning was evident throughout her work as an educator. She served at Mt. Zion Temple Academy, Marion Baptist Childcare, Wee Care, Royal Oak Presbyterian Nursery, Prudence Childcare, and through her own in-home childcare. Many lives were shaped by her patience, care, and instruction.

Her hands were gifted not only in teaching, but in creating. Brenda crafted decorative candles, body butters, scrubs, and countless items that brought comfort and beauty into homes. Her presence was a staple at the Apple Festival, and her entrepreneurial spirit led her to own a business in downtown Marion.

A lifelong learner, Brenda earned her Adult Diploma from New Destiny Academy and continually pursued knowledge. Most recently, she was working toward a degree in Culinary Arts, Hospitality, and Catering—always growing, always reaching.

As an author, Brenda wrote three children’s books and countless skits, plays, and illustrated sermons, leaving behind a creative legacy that will continue to speak.

Brenda overcame many obstacles with quiet strength and unwavering faith. Among her many accomplishments, she took special joy in earning a medal for being the eldest participant in a 5K—a reflection of her determination and vibrant spirit.

She leaves to carry her legacy: her devoted husband, Michael E. Jackson, Sr.; her children, Sandra Boyd (Bristol), Shirley Jackson (Johnson City, TN), Shennetia Jackson, Shereese Richards (Terry) of Troutman, NC, Michael Jackson Jr. (Jwana Sanders) of Abingdon, VA, and Timothy Jackson (Angelica Baylor) of Marion, VA; along with her God-given children, Denia Mitchem (Jon) of Sugar Grove and Lakenya Marsh (Theo).

A true testimony of her fruitfulness, Brenda leaves behind 37 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and loved ones.

Brenda Ruth Jackson was a pillar in the Marion, Virginia community.

She loved deeply. She gave freely. She lived faithfully.

Her hands are now at rest… but her love continues to move through every life she touched.
