Bobby "Bob" Ray Cornett, age 80 passed away at his home on Monday, April 1, 2024 surrounded by his family. Bob loved his family and was a proud Veteran of the United States Army and was a skilled airborn paratrooper and sharpshooter. He was born in Troutdale, Va, where he went to Virginia-Carolina High School and then eventually Oak Hill Academy and graduated with an Associate's Degree in Applied Sciences from Wytheville Community College in 1975. He married the love of his life, Doris, in 1964 and together they began a family. Bob started working when he was young, helping build Interstate 81 in Marion, Va and also in Washington, D.C., and then made nose cones and pool tables for Brunswick, before working for Appalachian Power for 38 years where he retired as a supervisor. When he wasn't working, he loved to hunt, fish, garden, camp and watch Nascar. Bob loved being in nature and outdoors. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl Cornett and Agnes D. Cornett Blanks; brother, Earl H. Cornette; sister, Carol Marlene Barker.

Bob is survived by his wife, Doris Cornett; daughter, Sandra Cornett Farmer and husband, Bruce; son, Bobby Ray Cornett, Jr. and wife, Angi, all of Marion, Va; grandchildren, Sarah Farmer Blevins and husband, Brad, Kimberly Nicole Tuggle and husband, Davy and Robert Daniel Farmer; great-granddaughters June Lyric Blevins and Thea Moon Blevins; great-grandson Bodhi Lucas Tuggle, with whom he shared a very special relationship; brother, Roger Dale Cornett of Rural Retreat, Va; sister-in-law, Else Schott of Germany; several nieces and nephews; best friend, Kenny Harris, the Moose Lodge, and a host of many other friends. 

Family will receive friends Sunday, April 7, 2024 from 2 until 4 p.m. at Fraziers' Seaver-Brown Chapel, 237 East Main Street, Marion, VA 24354. Funeral services will begin at 4 p.m. with Pastor Mike Sage officiating. Graveside service will be held Monday, April 8, 2024 at 12 p.m. at Troutdale Cemetery Auburn Lane Route 827, Troutdale, VA. Family and friends are asked to meet at Fraziers' Seaver-Brown by 11:15 a.m. to follow in procession. Military Rites will be conducted by the U.S. Army Funeral Honors Guard and Francis Marion VFW Post #4667.
