Betty Bottomley Metheney, 88, passed away peacefully on 7/13/2026 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law. She was born in Galax, VA to the late Corbett and Mable Bottomley.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, John Metheney; 4 brothers, Leonard, Willard, Billy and Ted Bottomley and a sister; Pat Bottomley. She is survived by her daughter Johnette, husband Wes and grand dog Rousey; 2 sisters, June Hoagland and Bonnie King, 2 brothers Roy Bottomley (wife Pat) and Frankie Bottomley (wife Evelyn); Maggie Bottomley, sister-in-law, like a sister, Joyce Bottomley, sister-in-law, numerous nieces and nephews.

Betty had two special “NC kids”, Eddie and Debbie Beck who called her “mom Betty”.

The most important thing to Betty was her faith and her love for the Lord. She always wanted to share that with others and took the opportunity often.

Betty worked at Marion Senior High School for years as an administrative assistant and later worked for Project Crossroads. She volunteered with Hospice for many years in service to many members of the community. Even after her time with Hospice, she continued to care for others, visiting and cooking. She was known for her famous sourdough bread and her canned goods. She truly had a servant’s heart.

The family would like to thank special friends Joyce Blevins, Margaret Conklin, Margaret Hall and Carol Edmundston for alltheir friendship, help and time.

The family would also like to thank her special caregivers from Good Sam Hospice- Adrian, Keeley, Chaley and Sonu. She also had many special caregivers at Francis Marion Manor while she was there. She loved each of you!

Funeral services will be Saturday, July 18, 2026 at 2 p.m. at Fraziers' Seaver-Brown Chapel, 237 East Main Street, Marion, Virginia with Reverend Eddie Beck officiating. The family will receive friends from 1p.m. until the time of service.
